Crown Technology Inc. is a family-owned and operated specialty chemical manufacturer with unmatched expertise serving the Steel Industry. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, Crown has been developing, manufacturing, and supplying the highest quality corrosion inhibitors, acid additives, rinse aids, and cleaners since 1946. Started by Harry L. Peterson as Crown Chemical Company, Inc., Crown remains a family owned business with son Joseph C. and grandchildren J. Scott Peterson and Carrie Peterson Benko at the helm. After starting in a small two room manufacturing and laboratory area in the basement of a local industrial building, Crown now has over 85,000 sq. feet under roof on 8 acres on the city’s northeast side. Joseph C. took over operations in 1958. He has since patented several revolutionary inhibitor and accelerator products for acid pickling as well as for the renowned Crown Acid Recovery System developed for the recovery of waste sulfuric acid used in pickling of steel. This design produced ferrous sulfate, a byproduct which has become a phenomenal part of Crown’s growth.
